As most of you know, we took a break this past year. We’re happy to be back and we have some exciting changes to announce!
Now there are two Church of Craft meeting locations in the Bay Area: Oakland and San Francisco (you are of course welcome to go to either location).
Oakland meetings begin in November 2008, and will be held monthly from 12-5 pm on the third Sunday at Rock Paper Scissors Collective.
San Francisco is still in the process of scheduling their next meeting, but if you have any location offerings or ideas, please let us know. Otherwise, please know we’re looking & planning, and you’ll hear announcements for both locations posted here and via our email list.
Please join us in Oakland on Sunday, November 16th to kick off Church of Craft Oakland 2008!
12-1pm Sunday School: Beginning Knitting (bring needles and light-colored yarn if you have them)
CALL FOR ARTISTS: The 4th Annual Holiday Sale: 2008 Christmas Island Get-Away
Join over 30 local fine artists and craftspeople for this one-night- only sale at Root Division. Space is $40 for 5 linear feet of table or wall space ($75 for both), and fees go towards supporting Root Division’s art education programs. The Holiday Sale is presented as the Second Saturday December, one of a continuing series of engaging events at Root Division opening on the Second Saturday of each month.
Last year’s sale featured 40 vendors including small prints, photos, & drawings, as well as handmade bags, jewelry, and other artist-made items perfect for the gifting season. We hosted over 300 people who enjoyed a festive evening of holiday tunes & cocktails and photos with Polar Bears. Sign up to be part of this year’s sale before our vendor list is full!
To sign up, contact Selene Foster at events@rootdivision.org or call 415.863.7668. Artists/vendors that register before November 2 will be included on event postcards. Final deadline to participate is November 26th.

The indie craft movement is coming to a big screen near you with Faythe Levine’s new documentary and book, Handmade Nation!
Faith traveled to 15 cities and interviewed 80 crafters to gather material for the project. The movie includes an interview with Callie about the roots of the Church of Craft, and the book contains an essay along the same lines.
East Bay Life featured the San Francisco Chapter in their August 2007 issue, which closes with a quote from Tristy:
“We never really arrive at our spiritual destination,” says Taylor. “It’s a lifelong process. Making things is a physical symbol of this spiritual journey.”
