Do you love the idea of recycling clothing to make new fabulous fashions?
Re-use old clothes that have a hole, are stretched out or shrunken to create new one-of-a-kind works of wearable art! For this class, bring a sweater, cut it up and sew it back into a whole new look. This class requires basic sewing skills. Please bring your own sewing supplies. The library will provide four sewing machines or you may bring your own. Instructor, Barbara Beccio, has created costume and apparel for over 70 productions in theatre, opera and dance. Currently, she teaches at the Art Institute of California-San Francisco and Stone Mountain and Daughter Fabrics in Berkeley.

SUPPLY LIST
1. Old sweaters that work well together color and texture-wise.
2. Assorted knit or woven fabrics, yarn, ribbons, trims, beads or anything else that you may want to work into the design of your sweater.
3. 1 & 1/2 (one and a half) yards of pattern paper if you want to make a simple shaped pattern for your garment. You may also purchase a simple square cut tunic or shirt pattern. Keep to a simple pattern. You may also build sweater pieces onto an existing sweater. This makes a nice jacket.
4. Good Sharp Scissors for fabric (if you are left handed, bring left-handed shears – Singer scissors are good for either handed and less expensive).
5. Paper Scissors – for cutting pattern and any paper.
6. Straight pins – long
7. Pin holder – Magnets, Cushion, or Box.
8. One package of Machine Needles for knits (ball point) if planning to sew on a machine. Size will depend on the thickness of the sweaters you are working with.
9. Seam Ripper
10. Tape Measure
11. 2”x18” Clear Plastic Ruler – with 1/8” increments – Collins – Quilt and Sew Ruler – not a quilting measure that is yellow and black print on a clear ruler.
12. White Tailor’s Chalk
13. Thread – A carpet thread (for hand sewing) or regular thread (machine) to match the colors you are working with.
14. Hand sewing needles – Larger eye to accommodate the carpet thread and yarn. Also, #7 Sharps.
