FIX YOUR JEWELRY, 12-1pm
Do you have jewelry that has broken, or tarnished? Need to replace the ear wires or hooks on some pairs of earrings that irritate your sensitive ears? Well, this weekend’s Church of Craft is just for you!

My wonderful girlfriend and talented jewelry-maker, Karrie Myers, is newly transplanted (back) from Brooklyn, and she has offered up her time to come in & help all of us fix our jewelry, and maybe even show us the ropes on making a few new pieces, too!

CRAFT-ON, 12-5 pm
You don’t have to be interested in the fix your jewelry part to come right at 12pm. Simply bring your new or continuing craft projects to work on with fellow crafters. It’s a nice big, bright space with lots of tables & chairs.

As always, you can come and go, open house style, and show up at any time… we’re there till 5, no matter what. Also, potluck snacks are welcome, but optional.

SPREAD THE WORD
Please pass this on to all of your crafty friends – use the Facebook invite! We love meeting new local crafters, and plan to start hosting this event on a regular basis. Sign up on the SF mailing list on the Church of Craft site to receive an email announcement/alert prior to monthly meetings: http://churchofcraft.org/mailing-lists/

Recycled Clothing: Creating New from Old

RecycledClothes_ecard_side1

Saturday, June 19th 2010, 12 – 4 PM
Main Library, Lower Level, Latino/Hispanic Community Meeting Room

Do you love the idea of recycling clothing to make new fabulous fashions?

Re-use old clothes that have a hole, are stretched out or shrunken to create new one-of-a-kind works of wearable art! For this class, bring a sweater, cut it up and sew it back into a whole new look. This class requires basic sewing skills. Please bring your own sewing supplies. The library will provide four sewing machines or you may bring your own.  Instructor, Barbara Beccio, has created costume and apparel for over 70 productions in theatre, opera and dance. Currently, she teaches at the Art Institute of California-San Francisco and Stone Mountain and Daughter Fabrics in Berkeley.

Registration is required, space is limited, e-mail at ddrummond@sfpl.org or sign up on the 4th Floor at the Business, Science & Technology Center reference desk, Main Library 100 Larkin St. (at Grove) San Francisco (415) 557-4277 sfpl.org

All programs at the Library are free. Supported by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library

SUPPLY LIST

1.      Old sweaters that work well together color and texture-wise.

2.      Assorted knit or woven fabrics, yarn, ribbons, trims, beads or anything else that you may want to work into the design of your sweater.

3.      1 & 1/2 (one and a half) yards of pattern paper if you want to make a simple shaped pattern for your garment. You may also purchase a simple square cut tunic or shirt pattern. Keep to a simple pattern. You may also build sweater pieces onto an existing sweater. This makes a nice jacket.

4.      Good Sharp Scissors for fabric (if you are left handed, bring left-handed shears – Singer scissors are good for either handed and less expensive).

5.      Paper Scissors – for cutting pattern and any paper.

6.      Straight pins – long

7.      Pin holder – Magnets, Cushion, or Box.

8.       One package of Machine Needles for knits (ball point) if planning to sew on a machine. Size will depend on the thickness of the sweaters you are working with.

9.      Seam Ripper

10.  Tape Measure

11.  2”x18” Clear Plastic Ruler – with 1/8” increments – Collins – Quilt and Sew Ruler – not a quilting measure that is yellow and black print on a clear ruler.

12.  White Tailor’s Chalk

13.  Thread – A carpet thread (for hand sewing) or regular thread (machine) to match the colors you are working with.

14.  Hand sewing needles – Larger eye to accommodate the carpet thread and yarn.  Also, #7 Sharps.

San Francisco Craftin’ it up in 2010!

Having a lovely, relaxing afternoon drawing & painting (watercolor).Hello and Happy New Year, urban crafters!

SF CoC took a brief hiatus over the holidays, as I sell at all the local craft fairs, so it’s a fun, but somewhat feverish time. Thankfully I got some fabulous relaxing downtime over Christmas and New Years, and now I’m refreshed and ready to host a fun craft day again!

Maybe one of your new year resolutions is to make time to create more? Well, Church of Craft is a great, safe space and fun place to do just that!

Please join us: Sunday, January 24th, 12-5pm

Don’t have any crafty projects going? Have you wanted to come to a CoC meeting forever, but have no idea what to craft? I actually hear this a lot… so check it out:

I made this little owl today at craft dayThis Sunday I will bring craft supplies for you all to create things with!
It will be a smattering of things (magazines, glue & posterboard for collages, my button maker, jewelry stuff, paints, etc). YES! I know you’re all creative and it will be (always is) super fun to see what’s created throughout the afternoon. If any others feel like bringing extra crafty project items to share, too, that’d be wonderful.

I’d love to see this Sunday be our biggest SFCoC yet, so please join us & bring a friend!
